Windows 7 upgrade – Problems with Windows Messenger

Filed Under (Problems) by admin on 17-11-2009

Windows 7, as we know by now, does not have a few standard utilities like Windows mail / Messenger etc. included in its installation package. You could however download these programs from the Windows Live Essentials Suite and install them.

Even after installing these applications on your Vista machine, and then upgrading to Windows 7, many users have reported issues while re-installing the programs. Re-installation in such cases throws up an error saying that the applications are already installed. On trying to uninstall the applications using the Windows add / remove programs user interface, one finds that they are not present in the list of installed programs. The applications cannot be either installed or uninstalled.

This particular problem could be attributed to a corrupt / broken registry entry, preventing the programs from being displayed for uninstallation. Try cleaning the registry using an authorized tool and reinstall; you could also try and uninstall the programs in the safe mode. If all this is not helping you, get the free version of Windows 7 Yamicsoft program manager, and check if you are able to uninstall the programs from your PC using the smart uninstaller utility. You could then proceed with the installation as usual.

In case you are having problems with the Windows live installer, check if your antivirus / antispyware programs are preventing the installer from running. You could also check if there’s any problem with your network controller, causing access issues.

Issues related to signing in to Messenger, adding friends to your network, and corrupt installation files have also been reported.
