Upgrade Windows 7 from safe mode

Filed Under (Installation) by admin on 25-03-2010

Looking to upgrade to Windows 7 from the safe mode of another existing OS? Several other users too are trying the same upgrade from Windows XP safe mode due to XP boot problems.

All upgrades will have to be done after booting in the Normal mode. You will not be able to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP safe mode either. However, you will be able to boot into the Windows 7 disk and can try a custom or advanced upgrade.

There is no way to directly upgrade to Windows 7 from XP, safe mode or otherwise. You will have to migrate to the new OS, details of which you can find at this Microsoft site.

You could also try and install the custom upgrade twice. The first copy will be treated as the latest version of Windows over which the next upgrade will be installed. In case other workarounds fail, the best option would be to seek help from Microsoft.
