How does Firefox fare under Windows 7?

There are many Microsoft Windows users who arent too fond of the Internet explorer. With the choice of alternate browsers being available, quite a few users have opted for the free, open-source browser, Firefox. Lets check out how well firefox has been functioning after the Windows 7 upgrade.
Earlier versions of firefox seem to work sort of okay with Windows 7, however support for the latest features of the new operating system may not be available. But then the performance also depends as usual on the number of browser add-ons you’ve managed to install.
Even with a few basic add-ons, random freezes and crashes seem to happen with the newer versions of firefox, other wise the browser just seems to crawl along. Firefox also seems to be having problems with heavily javascripted websites such as the google reader and facebook. On Windows 7, random UAC prompts pop up every time the user launches a new tab, or new window in Firefox. The add-ons too are not visible in the browser. Also, the Firefox icon goes missing in a few cases – not to worry – this one has a fix detailed at Icon went missing in Windows 7? Here’s a Fix
If you are a regular firefox user familiar with troubleshooting crashes, then you could look up the firefox link on Firefox crashes to check if the problem is with the browser. You could check out Firefox support too for further help on the issues.
A few workarounds in the meanwhile seem to have helped people continue using the firefox browser. The first option is to run the browser in Vista compatibility mode, a temporary fix though!
Firefox works fine with absolutely no add-ons. In case you can manage without the add-ons for some time, then you could uninstall or disable all add-ons.
The next remedy is also on the same lines as the previous one, but then it affects only 2 add-ons. In case you’ve loaded the Skype or FeBe add-ons, you could disable them first before ripping out all the add-ons.
We hope that the new beta version 3.6 released recently, will to some extent solve these basic problems. Firefox 3.6 beta offers a better performance, with a few MAC OS X integration features, as well as integration with the new Window 7 taskbar, apart from visual preview effects.
Getting back to the problem on hand, if you arent too sure if it’s a Windows 7 upgrade problem or a browser problem, you could call for help at the tollfree number of Omnitech Support for online support related to Microsoft Software. You could also chat live with a technical support engineer to get the issues sorted out. They may be just able to resolve non-microsoft issues too!
